Interview with Jeremy Guarnoni

Tuesday, 17 December 2013 09:52 GMT

Young Frenchman Jeremy Guarnoni can't wait for the new racing season to start. The 20 year old from Toulouse will contest his debut WSBK year in the new-born EVO class, riding a Kawasaki ZX-10R fielded by Team MRS. Guarnoni has been racing for Adrien Morillas' squad for several years and won with them one Superstock 600 title in 2010. He also finished in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup top-3 in the last two years.

How do you feel about stepping up to the new Superbike EVO?

"I am looking forward to start riding the EVO, this bike is like a SBK replica and I'm sure that we'll be able to do some good times with them comparing to the full spec Superbikes."

How long ago did you sign the contract? Did it take long?

"I just signed the contract with MRS a week ago. It was really hard to find a solution to get the necessary budget but finally, with the help of Kawasaki, the French Federation and many other sponsors, we found the budget to start this new project."

You tested the bike already. How does it feel and what are the differences compared to STK1000 machine you used to ride?

"I tried the first version of our bike in Jerez, it was a Superstock with forks, breaks and tyres of a SBK and I think we did a good job, we were very fast, around 2 seconds faster than the STK1000 and it’s an encouraging for being the first outing. Now we have the chance to improve our EVO changing the chassis and the settings. This bike turns much better and the breaks are amazing compared to the STK bikes."

What are your goals for next year?

"My goal for the new season is to be up front in the EVO class and show that I've got the skills to do well in my first year."

How are you spending the testing ban period?

"I am training a lot, doing supermoto, motocross, cycling and climbing, these are the things that make you progress in motorcycling even if you can't ride your superbike throughout the off-season."

Do you think the new Superbike EVO formula will help in terms of cost reduction?

"Yes, we already knew it because we have studied the budget for the season and it looks more like a budget to ride in WSS than in SBK, because the cost is much lower due to having standard engines and electronics. The most expensive are overhauls, because engines make a big difference in terms of performance, but last very little.

In my opinion, the EVO is the perfect strategy for having a good show with riders from all around the world on the grid!”
